Meet Stan

Army Veteran – Former Small Business Owner – Retired Union Member – Community Leader

Stan Opal grew up in Michigan, knowing what it means when a community invests in itself and its children. His strong sense of service and community has guided his military service, his career keeping Michigan’s power grid safe, and his volunteer service in our community.

After graduating from high school, Stan enlisted in the US Army where he served as a Combat Engineer tasked with detonating and removing abandoned landmines in Korea. Stan served ten additional years in the Army Reserve through the final years of the Cold War.

When Stan returned home from active duty, he started a small business and later joined a union as a crane operator in nuclear and coal-fired power plants. Stan spent his career keeping our powergrid stable and maintaining powerplants across Michigan.

Stan has called Northern Michigan home for more than 35 years. Since retiring from the Operating Engineers, Stan has remained active in the community, including serving as Chair of the Friends of White Cloud Library, as well as serving on the White Cloud Area Fire Board and as a Governor appointee to the Michigan State Board of Professional Engineers.

Stan Opal is running for State Senate because in times like this our country and community need someone committed to doing the right thing to protect our children’s future and freedom.
